Hello, I’m Joshua Jones and I’m a disabled combat veteran who has been training canines for the last six plus years. I am an American Kennel Club certified trainer with a major passion for what I do. When I first came back from Iraq in 2008 I had trouble getting my feet back underneath me. I was in a tough spot but thankfully I found Soldier Dogs for Independence. They paired me with my Rot/Shepard mix, Rapala, and trained us to work together as a battle buddy team. From there my love grew. A shelter dog saved my life. 22 veterans a day commit suicide. This is a huge issue that really hits home for me. I’ve tried to stay active in helping this issue through Soldier Dogs for Independence, Dog Tags in Kayaks, Healing Reins, USI’s Family Day and Car Show, Outward Bound School-VA, Honor Dogs, Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Sheep Dog Impact Assistance and working with the Vet Center. After graduating Soldier Dogs for Independence, I started working with individuals teaching them how to train their own canines. At some point it turned into therapy for me. Dogs will climb a mountain just to stand beside you, is amazing to me. I’m a huge fan of you take care of me and I will take care of you. I’ll come in early and stay late because I work for you. Thank you and I hope to work with you soon.
